Question One

How did you start making electronic music ?

Ans :- I began buying my first sampler at 19 years old – I was a bass player and a singer before… I played some keyboards and objects before with a friend, but it wasn’t anything serious… but the day I spent something like 600 Euros on an Akai S2000, it got serious. I wanted repetition, and that’s what I learned, first of all, to emulate the music I was loving.

Question Two

What made you want to become a musician ?

Ans :- The urge to tell a story. It became a sort of exorcism for my chronic depression and general anxiety, but in the last ten years, it is becoming more like the beginning: trying to enter a certain mood inside a specific concept and giving my impressions about it, in form of a musical album .

Question Three

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music ?

Ans :- I paint. A lot. I stopped painting for years, I was too maniacal about making music and occupied to take care of the various partners I had around. After being left alone and single for the first time in my adult life in 2019, I began to paint once again like when I was in Art School – and I admit I am creating a body of work so big and consistent that is up equally with my music. I sell and exposed my paintings all over the world and well, I am glad they are quite appreciated ! Aside from painting, I absolutely love to read and watch the behind-the-scenes documentaries of movies I love. I am a total nerd for these things 😀 plus, throw in some graphic novels and mangas and yeah, you have quite the image of the single geek stereotype, hahaha!!!

Question Four

What Kind of Music Gear you Used and Why ?

Ans :- I used literally EVERYTHING I could put my hands on.

What I love about electronic music is that it can have various nuances and is acousmatic, electro-acoustic, glitched… so I used a Minimoog, an Akai S2000 sampler, drum machines of any kind, from Alesis SR 16 to real drums or drum pads by Yamaha, I played a Triton, 4, 5 strings bass, guitars, violin, viola, cello, I recorded ambiances treating raw footage with a microcassette player, I played a church organ, treated piano… I mean, you get really creative, I used doll parts to make two albums in the past as almost being the only instruments for those records… if you are versatile enough you can learn anything… maybe not properly, but enough for playing what you had in mind!

Question Five

Who is your favorite artist or a person you look up to in the industry ?

Ans :- I have too many favorite artists. I seriously don’t know how to answer this.

I would say John Cale and Scott Walker tho, because they both went ahead with their making uncompromising, interesting music for their whole career – and they weren’t always “easy listening”!

They did what they felt. And this is the key to being (at least partially) happy with your albums.

Question Six

Do you think anyone can be a musical artist ?

Ans :- No, I am sorry, I’m not an idealist on this. Being “artist” is something that is in your DNA naturally first and foremost, or there isn’t at all, just like the charisma, you can try to be more confident in yourself and have a certain swag in your style, but you’ll never be as charming as that natural beautiful person that even when he’s sick in bed he would steal the scene in front of you… But if you practice hard enough you can become an excellent player, which is still a great accomplishment and shouldn’t be underrated at all .

Question Seven

What is your main inspiration ?

Ans :- Oh God, it really depends on what is happening in my life and what I am absorbing at the moment… how I feel, and how the things I am watching, reading, or listening complete my mood.

In these late years tho, I have quite a thing for lightbulbs, the uncanny valley, the liminal space basic concept, and doll parts .

Question Eight

What strengths do you have that you believe make you a great musician ?

Ans :- I am not that great at all 😀

But well… I can play multiple instruments and build an entire album on a shoestring or no budget at all.

Plus I take care of the visual and graphic arts as well as all the rest. Plus, I think I can pull off good performances quite fast if needed. I learned how to be a session musician during all these years even for other projects, and I am… quite good at what I do :)
