About The Composer Paul Headon

PAUL HEADON (DREAMSCAPIST) Born in the South-West farming community of Hay Paul Headon has always been aware of two things, sound and open spaces and how well they work together. Begining classical piano at an early age and then continuing in Sydney with further studies in the 1970's he was obsorbing all the music he could hear. In 1978 Paul listened to an emerging artist called Vangelis playing on an album titled “China”. From that moment on the music that is Ambient became his guiding light. Throughout the 1980's, whilst teaching music and recording his own compositions, Paul became fascinated with the sounds of electronic keyboards. He also put together a cassette album called “Travellers” with short-story author and poet Rachel Barry. Come the mid-1990's he had relocated to the coastal city of Wollongong and put together a small studio for more of his own music as well as re mastering his earlier compositions. In 2001 Paul recorded and released his first CD “The Middle Distance”. This was very well received by audiences and critics alike.Tracks from this album received airplay on ABC Classic FM, the New Age program, Ultima Thule as well as the excellent American syndicated Ambient program, Echoes. In late 2001 Paul started broadcasting an FM radio program called “Sirius FM Music” using Chill-Out , World and Ambient as it's core musical genres. This was to run for ten years every Saturday mornings on 106:9 Vox FM until 2011 when he decided to “hang up” his headphones to concentrate on his own compositions. In 2003 Paul was commissioned to compose an original score for the local theatre group, Dodo Express for their production of “The Tempest”. This was highly praised for an exciting interpretation. 2005/2006 he was asked to record and produce 2 songs by the singer Wyn Morris in an International song competition that was supported by the local Nan Tien Buddhist Order. In 2007 Paul was asked to compose a song for that year's contest and with the talented singer Kate Farrar, performed it in Taiwan. In 2008 Kate performed another of Paul's songs in a similar song contest, this time in Malaysia. In 2012 he released his second album “Equanimity”on his Emanations Label. 2013-2020....Paul worked extensively with YouTube meditation artist Jason Stephenson, as well as performing his calming and meditation music at the Brahma Kumaris Centre for Spiritual Learning and again at the Nan Tien Buddhist Temple. 2018-2020 He also collaborated for two years with Life - Affirmation coach Virginie Esprit on a project called “Illuminations” as well as working with FiWalter Curll (HangDrum) and Jason Brett (guitar) on a World Fusion trio. In 2021 Paul was commissioned to compose for the Kamalashila Buddhist Centre in Central Tilba by putting together their Mantra chants with his meditational sounds. 2022 saw the release of a Space Ambient album called “Beyond The Known”under both his own name as well as DREAMSCAPIST. Paul collaborated with Shane Beck - (The Last American Poet) for their Tone Poems Project which cullminated with the release, on Bandcamp, of their album “Pagan Eulogy”. They are now in the process of working on their second project called “Ünyeilding Heart”. In the same year he also joined forces with European Electronic composer, Frederic Kuyl (No Lake) for a YouTube video called “What Lies Beyond”. In early 2023 Paul was approached by Sound Artist and Noise Manipulator, Mike Benoit for a unique project using music from Paul's 2021 solo piano works called “Thursday Morning-5am”. This will result in a soon-to-be released album titled “Reconstructed Thursdays”. Paul Headon has worked under a number of aka's. “Spedition” (World Drum n Bass), Atmoss- Ferrix (ChillOut/DownTempo), but the one he is mostly known for is “DREAMSCAPIST” which is used primarily for the calming of the mind. Paul can always be found working hard in the studio composing his Atmospheric, Space Ambient amd Meditation music for YouTube with over 300 videos...and counting!!
